Art at the Trace to be held February 11, tickets now on sale

The 7th Annual Art at the Trace, sponsored by the Centerville Arts Commission will be held on February 11, 2012 at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace. “Our community is very fortunate that our City Council believes in the importance of the arts and is committed to making it accessible to all of us in Centerville through events like this,” said Ginny Strausburg, Centerville Arts Commissioner. “Art at the Trace is an opportunity for the public to meet the artists, enjoy the evening with friends and perhaps find some great art for their homes,” she said.

The event will feature hundreds of works of fine art in a variety of mediums from paintings, photography, sculptures, jewelry, and mixed media on display for viewing and purchase. Local artist, Matthew Burgy is the Art at the Trace featured artist who has donated an original sculpture entitled, “Apollo,” to be raffled off at the event at 8:00 p.m. All ticket holders will be entered in the drawing and must be present to win. Matthew Burgy is primarily a sculptor and painter, but he also works in many other mediums including drawing, printmaking, and photography.

The sculpture is stainless steel, glass, hematite, sterling silver, wood, and acrylic and valued at $125.00. “For me this sculpture is indicative of the space program to the moon--it is the pursuit of a dream, a reaching for the Heavens, a bold step into the unknown,” said Matthew Burgy. “The sterling silver bead at the top is reminiscent of the moon, whereas the large glass bead connected to the bottom of the base is reminiscent of the Earth. The blue pieces in between are the mysterious and far off regions of space, galaxies beautiful and yet to be explored. The black base and the hematite beads remind me of the dark void of space. When the wind moves the elements of the sculpture, I am reminded that our universe is set in motion by a force much grander than we can see or control. The wind is always moving, and so is the Spirit that inspires us to search the world around us and the soul within us,” he said.

Guests will enjoy live music provided by Michael and Sandy Bashaw and the Quantz Trio, along with an assortment of delicious, gourmet appetizers and desserts. A cash bar will be available offering fine wines, beer, and cocktails.

Tickets for Art at the Trace are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Cash or check is accepted in advance and at the door. The event runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace, 10000 Yankee Street in Centerville.
